What to do with your holiday snaps

Whenever you go on a holiday, whether it’s to the beach, the mountains or a historical city, chances are you’ll be going with your camera poised to capture every moment. By the time you return home, you’re saddled with hundreds or even thousands of photographs on your hard drive. Most people are clueless as to what to do with their often massive collections of holiday snaps, which is a pity, as there are so many ways you can use them to relive the excitement of travel. Here are some ways you can keep the memories of your adventures alive.

Order canvas prints

Hanging your pictures on a wall can be a great way to decorate your home and give yourself a daily reminder of great memories. Instead of simply sticking photographs on the wall, get some of your favourite shots enlarged and printed on canvas. Canvas prints can dramatically transform the appearance of a room and make your pictures look professionally taken. While photographs of stunning scenery are extremely popular candidates for canvas prints, group or family pictures also look fantastic when blown up and mounted on the wall. A photo collage printed on canvas can also be a very striking way to memorialize your adventures and keep them fresh in your mind.

Make a scrap book

Years after the event, people still love leafing through scrapbooks and albums made in honour of their wedding day or the birth of their children. So it’s surprising that more people aren’t creating scrapbooks to commemorate their travels. Digital photography has made it possible to take thousands of photos on a single trip, but that doesn’t mean you need to print every single one of them. Choose photos of the most memorable legs of your trip and then put them in a scrapbook together with other mementos such as ticket stubs, brochures and small souvenirs. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself constantly returning to your scrapbooks, as reminding yourself about your trips can be addictive.

Create a slide show

When you return from an epic trip, don’t immediately forget all about your travels. Looking at your photos together with friends and family can keep the back-to-work blues from setting in. Instead of scrolling through thousands of photos randomly saved on your hard drive, consider creating a slide show showcasing your best shots, which you can then watch on the computer or television screen. You can even add accompanying music for dramatic effect.

Put them in picture frames

An otherwise ordinary photograph can become a work of art when placed in the right frame. Select some of the best pictures from your trip and then match them with frames that help them look their best and match the interior décor of your home. For instance, if you have a minimalistic interior, pick black and white shots and place them in simple glass frames. If your décor features lots of bright colours, pick cheery frames and dynamic photos in bold hues. Your pictures should be displayed not just as a reminder of your holiday memories but also to make your home even more inviting.
